All over the world, people are learning and using mathematics every day. “The whole population of a certain region is embraced by a type of culture. Each individual is born into a pre-existing organization of beliefs, tools, customs, and institutions. These cultural traits shape and mold each person’s life, give it content and direction. Mathematics, is, of course, one of the streams in the total culture” (Wang, 2018). Different countries can vary with their math language, history, and number system. Number systems are “symbols and collections of symbols used to represent small numbers together with systems of rules for representing larger numbers” (LeVeque, W Judson and Smith. David Eugene, 2019). Get ready to explore and experience number systems around the world.
As we further understand the origins and evolutions of our numbering systems, we can work towards a better understanding and use of numbers in our daily lives. It is important to note that these systems are evolving and the more we understand the history the better we can create improved systems for the future.
